OVERVIEW
Gallstones are small hard deposits of stones which are formed in the gallbladder. It is one of the main causes of biliary tract diseases in the world, with an estimated 10-15% of adult population in the USA and around 5.5 million people in UK having been diagnosed with gallstones. In majority of the cases gallstones are asymptomatic, however 1/3 of the cases do develop some symptoms which might necessitate the removal of gallbladder from the body by undergoing a surgery.
